I’ve been building shorebird coffee and infusing intention in every detail of the business. Every step of the way I ask myself, how can we make coffee culture better?
I bought an old ‘91 Dodge surf van, Big Blue, and converted it into the perfect coffee cart hauler, mini cafe seating area and adventure companion.

the mission
I’ve been surfing the California coast for over 15 years. Picking up cups, lids and other trash on the beach after surf sessions led me to a question: Why is the coffee industry so wasteful?
I started a mobile coffee cart that doesn’t use single-use plastic cups. I look at every step of the process with a sustainability lens. We source coffee beans and plant-based milks that are b-corp certified to bring you a more ethical cup of coffee.
The goal is to change coffee culture away from convenience and waste because doing better isn’t that hard.
the coffee philosophy
Shorebird coffee has a grounded and unpretentious approach to coffee. We love to nerd out over the espresso dial in or the cold brew recipe that is hitting just right, but we also like to keep it light hearted. Coffee doesn’t have to be so serious.
We love to bring you subtle latte flavors inspired by a breezy, salty & sunburnt day at the beach.
the name
As surfers and ocean-lovers who frequent the sea shore, there’s constant awareness of little changes like fluctuating tides, shifting sands, and frequency of waves. We can’t help but notice all the big changes too. Our impacts on the coast from plastic pollution to coastal erosion mean the habitats of shorebirds are shrinking.
At shorebird coffee we’re interested in finding sustainable ways to continue to do the things we love like surf, enjoy the sandy beaches and drink coffee.
Surfing is the closest we’ve ever been to flying and we just want to be shorebirds by the sea.
